Guang’anmen Hospital

Founded in 1955, Guang’anmen Hospital has played a vital role in the development of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in China. In its early days, the hospital received significant support from the Party and the government, attracting numerous esteemed experts in both traditional and integrated TCM. Premier Zhou Enlai personally emphasized the importance of the hospital’s mission by inscribing the phrase: “Carry forward the heritage of traditional Chinese medicine and serve socialist construction.”

Today, Guang’anmen Hospital comprises two campuses, with a total construction area exceeding 151,000 square meters. Thanks to the dedication of its staff over the years, the hospital now boasts 30 clinical departments and 9 medical technical departments. It is recognized for its 6 national key clinical specialties: oncology, cardiovascular, rheumatology, dermatology, endocrinology, and TCM nursing. Additionally, the hospital operates 6 national regional TCM diagnosis and treatment centers, 5 grade III laboratories for TCM science and technology under the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and holds 18 qualifications for clinical drug trials. In 2021, the hospital recorded 3.51 million outpatient visits, with 2.59 million at its main department, which also features 650 inpatient beds.

In 2011, Guang’anmen Hospital was entrusted with managing the former Daxing District Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, leading to the establishment of its South District. The hospital actively promotes the development of regional medical centers and consortia, enhancing the role of TCM throughout Beijing and the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.

The hospital primarily employs traditional TCM treatment methods, including acupuncture, tuina, rehabilitation training, and herbal medicine, supplemented by modern diagnostic and treatment approaches. It has amassed extensive experience in treating complex conditions such as malignant tumors, rheumatism, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, diabetes, hyperthyroidism, kidney diseases, and various digestive disorders. Additionally, it addresses a wide range of conditions, from skin diseases to gynecological and pediatric disorders.

Guang’anmen Hospital has developed over 40 traditional Chinese medicine nursing techniques and embraces a dialectical nursing philosophy, which emphasizes tailored care based on individual patient needs. Recognized as a national education and training base for TCM nursing, the hospital also serves as a vice chairman unit of the Chinese Nursing Association and chairs multiple professional committees.

Leveraging the expertise of seasoned TCM practitioners, the hospital has developed 120 hospital preparations that demonstrate remarkable therapeutic effects. These include Xihuang Jiedu Capsules for tumors, Yingtumiao Capsules for thyroid issues, Xiaochuan Ointment for cough and asthma, and various other formulations. These preparations have been clinically used for decades, significantly enhancing the effectiveness of treatments while reducing costs, earning them a strong reputation among patients.

Guang’anmen Hospital remains committed to preserving and promoting the heritage of traditional Chinese medicine while continually seeking to provide timely, effective, safe, and high-quality medical services to its patients.
